Does my teen need braces?
The teen years are fundamental for building confidence and strong self-esteem! Not every teen needs orthodontics, but those who do can benefit for a lifetime.
On your first visit to our Holly Springs orthodontic office, we’ll perform a full smile assessment to determine whether your teen would benefit from orthodontics.
In the meantime, these are some signs and symptoms that indicate your teen needs braces, clear aligners or another treatment:
- Lack of confidence when smiling or hiding smile regularly
- Jaws or teeth are disproportionate to the rest of the face
- Difficulty biting or chewing
- Digestive issues caused by improper chewing
- Early, late or irregular loss of baby teeth
- Crooked, crowded or gapped teeth
- Grinding or clenching the teeth
- Thumb sucking / finger sucking habits in childhood
- Jaw pain or facial pain
- Jaw shifting, popping or clicking
- Persistent mouth breathing

Why start treatment during adolescence?
For many teens, braces are a rite of passage: They’re one more example of the changes adolescents go through at this time — along with growth in stature, edgier tastes in clothes and music, and an increasing degree of self-awareness. So why is adolescent orthodontic treatment a good idea? In short, it is a major investment in the rest of their life.
There are several good reasons why adolescence is the optimal time for orthodontic treatment. One has to do with the development of the teeth. There’s no set timetable for every kid, but generally by the age of 11-13 the deciduous (baby) teeth have all been lost, and the permanent ones have largely come in. This is the time when we can go to work correcting the problems that cause a bad bite (malocclusion), improper tooth spacing or poor alignment.
Types of Teen Braces
Every teen is unique, so it’s important to us that we provide desirable treatment options that allow teens to feel confident during treatment!
Teens can choose from:
- Clear aligners (Spark™ or in-house aligners)
- Custom KLOwen 3D-printed braces (41% faster on avg!)
- Advanced Damon® self-ligating braces (metal or clear)
What is the cost of braces for teens?
The cost of teen braces or clear aligners will depend on a few factors, including the severity of the condition and the length/complexity of the treatment plan.
Financing Teen Braces
We want every teen in Holly Springs to smile with confidence. We offer a variety of discounts, and 0% interest in-house financing to help you cover the cost of your teen’s braces.

We accept most insurances, including United Concordia! Insurance can cover more of your orthodontics cost than you may think.
Our team will do all of the paperwork and file your claims for you to help you receive the maximum benefit from your plan.
On your first visit to our Holly Springs orthodontist office, we’ll calculate your insurance coverage and create a custom payment plan that suits your budget.

Convenient Treatment at the Right Time
Orthodontic problems don’t improve with age — they simply become harder to treat. It’s easier to treat many orthodontic problems during adolescence because the body is still growing rapidly. Whether we use standard braces, or appliances like palatal expanders, we can create an improved appearance and function in a short period of time. Many conditions become more difficult to treat when the bones of the face and jaw are fully developed.
There’s even a social element to getting orthodontic treatment in adolescence. If you need braces, you’re not alone! Chances are you’ll see some of your classmates in our office. You may even make new friends as you go through the process together. You’ll have a smile that you can really be proud of when it’s complete. The benefits that will last your whole life, too!
